The Art Center Presents: Granite State
The Award-Winning Art Center in Dover, New Hampshire is paying homage to New Hampshire in this month’s exhibit “Granite State” at The Art Center Gallery. On display now, the show celebrates New Hampshire with an engaging mix of artistic expression. Most of the work presents scenes from the seacoast area, Rye, Durham, Portsmouth and Dover itself. Lovely depictions of landmarks such as Wentworth by the Sea, the Portsmouth Music Hall and the Sarah Long Bridge are balanced by exquisite atmospheric landscapes, almost photorealistic landscapes and ocean scenes. No exhibit of New Hampshire would be complete without paintings of boats and those working the water for a living and this show effectively satisfies that requirement. Artists featured in this show are Robert Barker, Jim Reagan, Joanne Rhode, Kent Maxwell, Matt Gunn, Kirk Carter, Doug Vaughan, Ron St. Jean, Prospero Eaton, Dale Tremblay and Nettie Vaughan and Robert Weinstein.
The Granite State Exhibit Artist Reception will be held at Art Center Saturday, January 11th from 6 to 8 PM. The exhibit will be on display until January 31st. Parking is available. For more information visit The Art Center website at www.theartcenterdover.com or call 603-978-6702. WACKY ART at the Children’s Museum of NH
Dover, NH – (January 3, 2020) The Children’s Museum of New Hampshire in Dover now offers Wacky Art Wednesday drop-in art workshops for children ages 2 and up and their caregivers. Each Wednesday at 2pm, a different medium will be explored ranging from clay to paint and everything in between. Cost for workshops is included with museum admission and free for members. Museum admission is $11 for adults and children over the age of 12 months, and $9 for seniors ages 65+. Admission is free for children under age 1.
Meredith Brustlin, CMNH Early Childhood and Literacy Coordinator, oversees the art creations in the museum’s MUSE Studio, a welcoming and bright space where making a mess and exploring art is encouraged year round. “Exploring art is something we’ve always done here at the museum,” said Meredith. “Art is a fundamental part of childhood and makes a great companion to play exploration, so we incorporate art into many of our programs and events. Whether that’s a Junior Science class focusing on Math, or a Valentine’s themed T-Rex Tea Party – all programs offered here at CMNH – you’ll find art-making incorporated across the board.”
The museum’s commitment to art is clear with the presence of the Gallery 6 art exhibitions, which line the walls of the ramp leading up to the second floor of the museum. These rotating exhibitions feature art by local artists with varying themes. The current exhibition “Unbound” will end January 10th and features a collection of mixed media art by 5 local artists who, almost mischievously, snip, rip, mark, fill, cover up, and create artwork from the shells and guts of books. The next exhibition in Gallery 6 will be a collaboration with Dover’s own “Wrong Brain” artist’s group.
Art programming at the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire is supported by the NH State Council on the Arts, Georgia-Pacific and the Fuller Foundation.
