At Greater Barrington Chamber of Commerce

This year was the rejuvenation of the Barrington Chamber Peeper 5K after Covid-19 impacted the last two years. It was great to get the event back off as usual. We expected a smaller crowd this year but are hoping the numbers will begin to return to normal over the next couple of years.

This was my 6th year helping with the event and 1st as the race director. This is a fantastic event with all the fun children have with touch-a-truck, little hooper area and petting animals from Wildlife Encounters. Sponsors can have a booth for people to learn more about them while waiting for the race to begin and after the race. On the course you can race against your friends or be competitive and try to place. This is a sanctioned event, but it still allows for walkers. After the race there are fruit, granola bars and water for free at the Hospitality Tent. After my running days were over, I have enjoyed several years walking with my dad and catching up on what was happening. This is a terrific community event and I have glad to be a part of it.

This race is not just a fun race, there is a purpose. Funds raised by this event go towards scholarships for graduating seniors and college undergraduates. This year we are giving out 5 scholarships (three $1,000 and two $500). Funds also go towards the Scholarship Dinner where each recipient is personally recognized and awarded their scholarship. This recipient then gets to speak to the audience about their accomplishment. After attending many of these dinners it amazes me what they have accomplished in a short amount of time.

As stated, this is a fantastic event that I have been proud to be a part of, but this couldn’t have happened without the dedication of the other committee members: Carlynne Pouliot, Derek Small, Cara Metell & Lynne Grey and the Barrington Chamber Board.  We must do a huge shout out to all the sponsors of the event as it could not have happened without their support, especially the two Gold Sponsors Turbocam International and D.F. Richard.

Thank you to all that attended, and we look forward to seeing you again next year!

Sincerely,

Raymond Bisson, Race Director
