The Art Center is proud to announce a special collaboration with Thanas Galleries of Portsmouth, presenting Maritime Light: The Lithographs of John Stobart, an exceptional collection of signed and numbered works by the acclaimed maritime artist. This collector-focused exhibition will be on view in The Collector’s Corner, located at The Art Center, from February through March 31, 2026, offering a rare opportunity to acquire works by one of the foremost interpreters of maritime history.

Renowned for his luminous depictions of historic ports, sailing vessels, and maritime commerce, John Stobart captured the grandeur and precision of America’s seafaring past. The exhibition features a carefully curated selection of original lithographs depicting iconic scenes from Nantucket, Boston, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Mystic Seaport, and the Mississippi River. Each lithograph is hand-signed and individually numbered, underscoring the collectible, investment-quality nature of the works on view.

Born in Leicester, England, in 1929, Stobart received formal training at Derby College of Art before earning a prestigious scholarship to London’s Royal Academy Schools. He later gained international recognition through successful solo exhibitions, most notably at Kennedy Galleries in New York, where his work entered important private collections throughout the United States. To maintain the highest standards, Stobart established Maritime Heritage Prints, Inc., personally overseeing the production of his limited-edition works.
